Pivô invites the public to attend artist Giulia Zabarella’s Open Studio, taking place on Thursday, June 18, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Pivô Boulevard in Salvador. The event marks the conclusion of her artistic residency and offers visitors an opportunity to engage with the processes, research, and works developed during two months of immersion in the city.
The program will feature an artistic action situated between poetic improvisation and performative reading at 6:30 PM, presented by the resident artist in collaboration with artist João Paes. The live two-voice reading interweaves visual and textual fragments gathered through encounters and observations during the residency. Following this, at 7:00 PM, curator Janaina Selva, who accompanied Giulia throughout her stay in Salvador, will lead a conversation about the artist’s practice, creative paths, and working processes.
“Giulia arrives with a body that is both willing and available to engage with the complexity of the questions she seeks to approach. Within the context of the residency, she steps gently onto the ground of Salvador and, through each encounter with artists, passersby, institutions, streets, celebrations, and traditional practices, invents her own tools for investigation, connection, and attentive listening, reinventing herself with every meeting,” comments Janaina.
The culinary activation will be led by Regina Lopes, a cook from Ilha de Maré.

Giulia Zabarella is a visual artist. She graduated in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (2022), where she studied under Olaf Nicolai, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (2016). In her site-specific performances (choral works), sound installations, and audiovisual pieces, she explores how literary tropes, metaphors, cultural inheritances, and linguistic noise shape perception and encounters in everyday spaces.
By experimenting with how language can be inhabited, strained, and transformed by bodies and spaces, she uses the choir as both an aesthetic and spatial device, as well as an acoustic machine capable of constructing sonic axes in space. Working closely with the voices, mother tongues, and bodies of friends and collaborators, she questions the process of writing and fixed notions of authorship, engaging in practices of collage, reappropriation, remix, and essay.
Her work has been presented at institutions such as MaximiliansForum and Kunstpavillon Munich, and she has participated in international residencies including the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
