On July 10, Pivô Boulevard welcomes artist Péricles Mendes, participant in the Pivô Conexão residency modality, developed in partnership with CAMPO Arte Contemporânea, in Teresina, Piauí.
The house will be open to the public from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with an artist talk at 7:00 pm, moderated by Uriel Bezerra, and a kitchen activation by Pablo Cordier. During the event, Mendes will share the processes and experiences developed throughout the residency, while also presenting an exhibition of works produced during this period.
Between May and June 2026, Péricles developed a new chapter of his ongoing research project, Epiphanies: Interfaces for Fictional Landscapes, during his residency at CAMPO. His practice approaches photography as an expanded field of image-making, bringing together sculpture, assemblage, and interventions in the landscape. Through walking-based research, the artist collects organic materials—such as animal bones—and combines them with discarded electronic components to create sculptural prototypes, which are later installed in the landscape and documented through photography.
For Péricles, photography functions as a device for fabulation, producing images that move between reality and imagination. By bringing together natural and artificial elements, the artist reflects on the relationships between body, territory, technology, and memory, constructing narratives that challenge historical stigmas associated with Brazil’s Northeast and propose new ways of imagining its landscapes.
“By appropriating the bones of dead animals and transforming them with electronic components, I seek to turn this index of death—an icon of the drought that sterilizes vast areas of Northeastern Brazil—into a symbol of fabulation and biological diversity. Once re-signified, the bones become associated with a fantastic and timeless reality when photographed within the landscape of Piauí, merging with a vibrant and thriving fauna,” the artist explains.
During the event, visitors will be able to experience the sculpture Serpent of the Poti River, produced at CAMPO’s studio, alongside a series of photographs documenting the work installed within the landscape of Teresina, on the banks of the Parnaíba and Poti rivers.
Pivô Conexão aims to expand Pivô’s network of institutional partnerships and strengthen exchanges with artistic production from different regions, enabling resident artists to develop broader research into contemporary artistic practices across Brazil.

Péricles Mendes holds a PhD and an MA in Visual Arts from UFBA, in the field of creative processes. His artistic practice investigates the photographic act through fictional narratives and scenic objects (mise-en-scène), fostering intersections between the organic and the artificial, while also developing studies on the landscape of Salvador.
He served as a professor at UFRB (2024–2025) and taught photography at Senac-BA (2009–2020). He also led the workshop O meu lugar vê o mundo, aimed at residents of Ilha de Maré, in Salvador (2012–2013).
He participated in the Salões de Artes Visuais da Bahia (2008–2012), the 9th and 11th Bienal do Recôncavo da Bahia, Diário Contemporâneo de Fotografia (Belém, 2012–2014), and the 15th Salão da Bahia (2009), and was awarded at the 18th Salão Anapolino de Arte.
Recent exhibitions include In Natura / in vitro (Belém, 2024), the 65th Salão Paranaense (Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Paraná, 2014–2015), the urban intervention Ruas das Artes (Salvador, 2024–2025), and Fotografia e vídeo: coleção arte contemporânea do MAPA (Casa de la Cultura, Buenos Aires, 2022).
His works are part of collections such as the Museu de Arte do Pará (MAPA) and the Diário Contemporâneo de Fotografia collection.
Uriel Bezerra holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts (History and Theory of Visual Arts) from the Federal University of Bahia (PPGAV/UFBA), where he researched the Bahia Biennials of 1966 and 1968, receiving the award for best Master’s dissertation in the arts at UFBA for the 2021–2022 biennium. He is currently a PhD candidate at the same institution. Between 2024 and 2025, he served on the Award Committee of the Bahia Visual Arts Salons, organized by Funceb.
Among his main experiences and projects, he participated in the 2014–2015 curatorial training program promoted by the Museu/Escola Lina Bo Bardi project, organized by the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (MAM-BA) during the 3rd Bahia Biennial. From 2017 to 2023, he coordinated Intervalo – Fórum de Arte, a platform that organizes public programs of debates, courses, and publications in partnership with cultural institutions in Salvador. He co-curated the itinerant exhibition Ecos do Atlântico Sul (Echoes of the South Atlantic) in 2018–2019 at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut, and has recently been dedicated to cultural management as Visual Arts Coordinator at the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia.
