Through the program Conduit and in partnership with Galeria Nara Roesler, PIVÔ presents an exhibition by Rodolpho Parigi. Participating in the program “Temporary Studio” at Pivô, the artist displays a selection of works produced in this context, as well as a site-specific installation complemented by a performance involving elements that are fundamental to the study that the artist has been conducting in recent years.

The exhibition, which occupies a large space in the foyer of the Copan on Pivô’s second floor, reveals to the public the creative process and the world of references of the artist who’s better known for his works of painting and drawing on two-dimensional surfaces. Here, Rodolpho extends his study to the space, and deals with the entire architectural specificity of the Copan in addition to making use of the functional elements of Pivô. The metallic enclosure used in the renovation of the space is chosen as a support for the set of collages produced from a terramycin atlas of human anatomy, which serves as a base for a sort of lexicon of the body created out of the artist’s vision.

In an open dialogue with the collages, Parigi presents a painting of large dimensions displayed in the context in which it was produced. The work, which takes place in an intermediate space between painting and drawing, features renditions of classic Brazilian paintings like “The Last Tamoio” by artist Rodolfo Amoedo and “Moema” by artist Victor Meirelles juxtaposed with the artist’s personal repertoire, resulting in a graphic epiphany of images and techniques (drawings, decals and painting) balanced precisely by the exclusive employment of variations of the color magenta, a signature of his work, in the composition.

In addition to these works, the artist presents in the exhibition a large installation complemented by a performance. Rodolpho works with a direct intervention in one of Pivô’s most intriguing spaces. Nicknamed the “Toothpick holder,” the space is characterized by a profusion of columns and pipes in the Edifício Copan which create a unique geometry in this room, used in the installation. In this setting, Rodolpho constructs two large display windows, revealing a sort of personal diorama of the artist. The windows maintain the distance from the public and contain its history of references just as dioramas in natural history museums contain staged representations of the natural history of humanity. The displays contain personal objects and other fitting items, the artist once again makes use of red and magenta tones creating a radiant and, at the same time, threatening atmosphere, overlapping works of video and performance produced during the exhibition period.

One of the actions proposed in the context of the installation is the performance realized on the day of the opening. The artist invites a blond actress to interact with the environment created inside the display windows entitled “Poltergeist,” the work refers to a scene in the movie of the same title, in which a child is trapped inside a television. The performance will be registered in video and shown during the entire exhibition period on a monitor placed inside the window display space.

The project is the second installment of Pivô’s program CONDUIT. Realized in partnership with Galeria Nara Roesler, it has the objective of presenting the public with the recent production by an important artist from the new generation in Brazil, revealing all the layers involved in the process from conception to the execution of the work – from the Temporary Studio to the finished exhibition.
