Pivô Coaty presents the fourth Circuito Lina walk

On June 26, Pivô held another edition of the Circuito Lina with its fourth guided visit to Coaty. The visit took as its point of departure Lina Bo Bardi’s work in Salvador during the 1980s, exploring the intersections of different narratives and temporalities.

The program featured a conversation between Ana Carolina de Souza Bierrenbach, professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and one of Brazil’s leading scholars on Lina Bo Bardi’s work and thought, and Maurício Chagas, architect, urban planner, and professor at the same institution, who closely followed Lina’s work in Salvador as coordinator of the Special Program for the Recovery and Revitalization of Historic Sites (PERSH) at the Salvador City Government. The discussion was moderated by UFBA professor and researcher Dilton de Almeida.

The participation of the invited speakers brought together two complementary perspectives on Lina’s work and ideas: Ana Carolina’s approach, shaped by decades of academic research and scholarship, and Maurício’s perspective, informed by his unique position as a firsthand witness to the institutional and technical processes that made Lina’s work in the city possible.

The visit proposed a reflection on this pivotal moment in Lina’s trajectory as an interweaving of times, shaped by memory, documentation, research, and testimony—continually reactivated as a living experience that is constantly revisited and contested in the present.

Circuito Lina is a program of guided walks and visits through Ladeira da Misericórdia, approached from a range of perspectives and lived experiences. The project marks the beginning of the activation process of Pivô Coaty and is part of a broader research and development initiative that Pivô has been carrying out under the title Centro-Vivo: Archive and Research Laboratory of Ladeira da Misericórdia, in collaboration with researchers and local cultural agents.

Each walk is led by different invited guests, who bring their own research interests and unique relationships with the site, whether through architecture, urban history, cultural and social practices, memory, or lived experience in the city.
