Adriano Costa: We Won´t Be Disappointed

Opening on August 30, Adriano Costa returns to Pivô, where he was among the first artists to occupy what was once a ruin, now fully taking over the institution’s main exhibition space. The exhibition brings together his experiments with various media and a selection of works developed over the past decade.

The exhibition title functions as both intimate and collective promise, echoing Costa’s philosophy of finding beauty and meaning precisely in moments of rupture and transformation. In his practice, disappointment is not an end but a starting point for new layers of meaning.

Over the years, Costa has developed a unique language he describes as “gentle vandalism,” questioning the boundaries between high culture and everyday debris. By working with discarded objects and overlooked materials, Costa reveals the layers of meaning that arise when items are removed from their usual contexts, exposing our ambiguous relationship with the things we produce and abandon.

Coinciding with the exhibition is the release of the artist’s first monograph, consolidating a career that began on São Paulo’s dance floors in the 2000s and evolved into one of the most compelling practices in contemporary Brazilian art.

We Won’t Be Disappointed
is both a retrospective and a manifesto—a declaration that in the instability of meaning lies the essence of contemporary life, which Costa embraces without nostalgia or cynicism.
