LAST UPDATE::

Between May 21st and June 12th, Buraux de Langue will be activated.

The installation Buraux de Langue (2013 – 2022) consists of a collection of dictionaries of various languages, videos, cassette tapes and a soundtrack created by Paulo Nazareth. The work was conceived from the artist’s attempt to learn the Guarani-Kaiowá language. This informal language teaching and learning office will be activated weekly by Tunga Mamona Makola, an Angolan immigrant living in Brazil. Tunga will teach visitors to the show cultural and social aspects of his country as well as the Kikongo and Lingala dialects.

The installation mobilizes the language in its living aspect, the working and physiological words – which are the first to be learned when arriving in a foreign country – and also the opacity that the construction of meaning carries. It also seeks to broaden the understanding of language as a tool for communication, breaking with the cultured norms of language, and enabling the scope of discourse and communication between groups and social strata.
