The Ocean’s Edge: Artists Take Part in Public Talk at Festival in Glasgow, Scotland

On June 5, artists Alberta Whittle, Leticia Ramos and Licida Vidal, participants in The Ocean’s Edge project, will take part in a public conversation moderated by Alice Sharp, Artistic Director of Invisible Dust, at Kelvin Hall Cinema in Glasgow, Scotland, as part of the Glasgow International Contemporary Art Festival.

The event will offer an opportunity to learn more about each artist’s research and practice, as well as their experiences throughout the past months in the residency and research project, which has included artistic immersions in Belém (Pará), Ubatuba (São Paulo), Salvador (Bahia), and most recently Cove Park (Scotland, UK).

The Ocean’s Edge takes inspiration from the work of pioneering environmentalist Rachel Carson—marine biologist and writer—and brings together ocean science and Indigenous philosophies to investigate the future of the Brazilian and British Atlantics.

The event will also feature works by the participating artists, alongside specimens from the Atlantic Ocean, including a black seadevil fish from the Porcupine Abyssal Plain, a flower coral from Barbados, and leatherback turtle hatchlings from Trinidad. The specimens were selected by Mike G. Rutherford, Curator of Zoology and Anatomy at The Hunterian, University of Glasgow, to showcase the diversity of the museum’s collections.

Marking the final stage of the project, audiences in Scotland will also have the opportunity to see earlier works by Leticia Ramos in the exhibition For All At Last Return, on view at Baltic Gateshead through Sunday, June 7. Admission is free.

The Ocean’s Edge is an international project developed by Pivô (Brazil) and Invisible Dust (United Kingdom), in partnership with TBA21–Academy, with support from the Instituto Guimarães Rosa and the British Council, as part of the UK–Brazil Season of Culture 2025–26.
