Pivô Coaty hosts seventh Circuito Lina walk focused on Lina Bo Bardi’s legacy in Salvador
On September 29th at 9:30 am, Pivô hosted another edition of Circuito Lina, with its seventh walk to Ladeira da Misericórdia and Coaty, inviting reflection on the different ways in which cultural institutions and artistic practices in Salvador engage with Lina Bo Bardi’s legacy.
This edition featured Igor Tiago, a cultural producer and curator who led Casa do Benin for the past six years, and José Eduardo Ferreira Santos, an educator and founder of Acervo da Laje, in a conversation moderated by researcher and UFBA professor Dilton de Almeida. Registration opened on Thursday, September 17th, at 12 pm, via an online form.
Although their trajectories are distinct, both guests have developed practices that intersect with Lina’s presence in the city. On the one hand, Casa do Benin, a cultural institution conceived by Lina Bo Bardi as part of the revitalization project for Salvador’s Historic Center in the 1980s, which continues to serve as a space for the production, exchange, and appreciation of Afro-diasporic cultures. On the other, Acervo da Laje, an autonomous institution based in the Subúrbio Ferroviário, whose work is grounded in what José Eduardo describes as a “post-Lina gesture” that expands the city’s cartographies of art, memory, and heritage.
The “post-Lina gesture” highlighted by José Eduardo calls for the recognition of other architectures, authorships, collections, and aesthetic elaborations produced on the margins of what has conventionally been considered the city center. It also questions the mechanisms through which certain legacies remain central while so many other experiences remain invisible.
The participation of the two guests brought into dialogue the contemporary challenges of managing a cultural institution directly connected to Lina’s work in Salvador and practices that critically expand the architect’s presence in the everyday life of the city.
Bringing these experiences together, the walk activates Ladeira da Misericórdia as a space for reflecting on how Lina’s legacy remains in motion, inviting cultural institutions and contemporary artistic practices to imagine other ways of producing memory, city, and future.
Circuito Lina, a program of walks to Ladeira da Misericórdia that approaches the site through different perspectives and experiences, is part of the activation process of Pivô Coaty and of Centro-Vivo: Arquivo e Laboratório de Investigação da Ladeira da Misericórdia. The project is an initiative by Pivô in partnership with the Municipality of Salvador and Hartwig Art Foundation, with institutional support from FAUFBA.
Each walk features different guests who lead the visit, sharing research, experiences, and readings of the territory through the lenses of architecture, urban history, cultural practices, memory, and the relationships built with Ladeira da Misericórdia.
