Pivô is an autonomous contemporary art platform founded in 2011, opened to the public in 2012, dedicated to artistic exchange, research, and experimentation. At its core, the institution seeks to reflect on artistic practice and advance its understanding as a distinct form of thought and active participation in visual culture, society, and politics—operating as a space for proposing, investigating, exploring, and experimenting. This purpose unfolds through an ongoing program that includes commissioned projects, exhibitions, artist residencies, publications, and public programs, creating conditions for the creation and circulation of ideas in direct collaboration with artists, curators, and publics, both nationally and internationally.

Pivô Copan, the institution’s first venue, is housed within the iconic Copan building in downtown São Paulo, where it has consolidated this experimental and collaborative approach. In 2023, Pivô inaugurated its second venue in Salvador: Pivô Boulevard, situated in the historic Suíço Boulevard mansion, a former gathering place for movements such as Tropicália and Cinema Novo. This multidisciplinary platform reinforces the institution’s commitment to decentralization and the development of cultural networks in dialogue with diverse contexts.

The expansion in Salvador will continue with the opening of Pivô Coaty on Ladeira da Misericórdia, occupying buildings designed by Lina Bo Bardi and João Filgueiras Lima. Across all three venues, Pivô shares a desire to occupy and reclaim historically significant locations, transforming them into vibrant cultural centers that foster artistic dialogue and community engagement. This new chapter reaffirms the commitment to circulating situated knowledge and building diverse cultural ecosystems.

Today, Pivô operates as a network, privileging movement over stability through dynamics of exchange that value differences and specificities. More than physical spaces, it constitutes a dynamic field of artistic dialogue and ongoing investigation that has already welcomed hundreds of artists at different moments in their trajectories.

Pivô and MAC_BAHIA open applications for Module #4 – Artistic and Audiovisual Installations

Pivô Salvador and the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Bahia (MAC_BAHIA), affiliated with the Instituto do Patrimônio Artístico e Cultural (IPAC), are now accepting applications for Module #4 – Artistic and Audiovisual Installations, part of the Laboratório Criativo: Arte e Tecnologia no Museu. The classes will be led by visual artist and researcher Virginia de Medeiros, with participation from director and art educator Claudia Chávez.

The course offers 15 spots reserved exclusively for women aged 16 and over. Applications are open until April 17 (11:59 pm Brasília time) and must be submitted via an online form.

Module #4 will focus on the development of artistic installations that use technology as a central language. Participants will explore sensors, interactivity, projections, and other technologies to create multisensory experiences. In addition to hands-on practice, the course includes the study of artistic projects developed by women, highlighting their contributions to the use and exploration of technology in the arts, while addressing themes such as representation, barriers to access, and the impact of initiatives that promote gender equity in the creative sector.

The theoretical program will include analyses of relevant works, focusing on the perspectives and innovative approaches of women artists who use technology in their practices. The course also encourages reflection on the presence of women in technological fields and the challenges they face, reinforcing discussions around representation, access, and equity. In doing so, it aims to strengthen participants’ autonomy and expand their technical and critical repertoire, fostering female protagonism in areas that intersect art and technology.

Classes will take place in person from April 28 to June 19, 2026, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5 pm to 8 pm, at MAC_BAHIA, in Graça. Selected participants will receive confirmation by email and must reply to secure their spot.
