Pivô launches the fourth episode of the Atlantic Threads Podcast, part of the project’s Brazil season

Pivô releases this Wedsnesday (11) the fourth episode of the Atlantic Threads Podcast, emerging from the project’s second season, which took place in Salvador, Bahia, in November, as part of the Brazil–France Season 2025. Hosted by artist and author Olivier Marboeuf (Guadeloupe/France), the episode features artist Afrah Shafiq (Goa/India), architect Olufèmi Hinson Yovo (Cotonou/Benin), and curator Cindy Sissokho (Montreuil/France) in a conversation about their shared experience in the city. The episode is available on Pivô’s Spotify and YouTube channels.

Throughout the conversation, the participants reflected on the many activities carried out in Salvador, including the exhibition Echoes Across the Atlantic: Building with Loss, by Olufèmi, as well as on the city itself as a living historical archive and contemporary notions of hospitality, ethics, and place. The episode was recorded remotely across four cities—Goa (India), Cotonou (Benin), London (United Kingdom), and Paris (France)—on January 16, 2026.

Atlantic Threads is a collaborative and interdisciplinary project that promotes artistic and cultural exchanges between contexts shaped by colonial legacies and power imbalances, with the aim of fostering the creation and strengthening of cultural and social ties between Salvador and African and European countries connected by the Atlantic coast. Through the participation of invited artists, researchers, and cultural agents collaborating at different stages of research and engagement across distinct territories, the project positions artistic practice as a tool for investigation and speculative reimagining around themes such as memory, Afro-Atlantic circulations, and Afro-diasporic thought.

The first edition took place between January and April 2025 at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, bringing together artists-in-residence Gabriela de Matos (Minas Gerais/Brazil), Tiganá Santana (Bahia/Brazil), Anne-Lise Agossa (Abidjan/Ivory Coast), Olufèmi Hinson Yovo, Cindy Sissokho, and Olivier Marboeuf.

In November 2025, the second edition of the project took place, welcoming Olivier, Afrah, Olufèmi, and Cindy for a residency at Pivô Salvador. Among several activities, the project expanded with the exhibition Echoes Across the Atlantic: Building with Loss, by Olufèmi—one of the central threads of the conversation. The exhibition was on view from November 8 to 23, 2025, at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Bahia (MAC_BAHIA).

The Atlantic Threads project held its second stage in Salvador, Bahia, as part of the Brazil–France Season 2025, with support from the French Institute of Benin and the Guimarães Rosa Institute, and sponsorship from Petrobras. Production is by Instituto Cultural Acrópole, through the Federal Government’s Cultural Incentive Law, with realization by the Ministry of Culture and the Government of Brazil.
