Pivô joins the international art initiative Unfinished Camp
Pivô is one of the nine organizations participating in the interdisciplinary art project Unfinished Camp. The international initiative is driven by the conviction that the next generation of artists must be heard as we envision the future of ethical technology.
To kick off the project, each institution invited three young artists to produce a short video exploring the question: What is the future of art in a decentralized world? The digital works will premiere at the House of Electronic Arts on September 23 in Basel, and at The Shed in New York on September 24 during the Unfinished Live event.
The artists selected by Pivô are biarritzzz (1994), who lives and works in Recife, Brazil; Christian Salablanca Díaz (1990), who lives and works in Guararí, Costa Rica; Lina Mazenett (1989) and David Quiroga (1985), who live and work in Bogotá, Colombia.
Pivô artistic director Fernanda Brenner explains:
“We have invited a group of artists that work across Latin America, whose work aims to highlight and dismantle the lasting sociopolitical and psychological effects of the modern colonial project. We are now facing a genuine crisis of our modes of existence. By looking closely into ancient indigenous traditions and technologies and engaging in more collaborative and place-based artistic approaches, the invited artists meet in their attempt to understand how divergent forms of knowledge and practices make worlds. In their works, the future is perceived less as a progression of developing events and more as a cosmos composed of intertwining times and narratives.”
Unfinished Camp was conceived by curator and artistic director of Serpentine Galleries Hans Ulrich Obrist and writer and cultural strategy advisor András Szántó. The initiative aims to provide a global platform for the voices of young artists by bringing them together periodically for face-to-face meetings.
