Pivô Pesquisa Study Program holds practical sessions with Beatriz Sano at iBT

Pivô Pesquisa – Performative Practices, Pivô’s artistic residency program, continues the activities of the 2026 Study Program, with activities taking place at iBT – Instituto Brasileiro de Teatro, a partner in this edition of the program, which is also supported by Instituto Impactarte.

From September 28 to October 2, professor, choreographer, dancer, and researcher Beatriz Sano leads Pequena Prática from 3 to 5 pm. Conceived as a brief instruction in care and cultivation, the daily sessions focus on introducing principles from Japanese and Chinese body practices, including breathing exercises, the use of vocal vibration, the perception of micro-movements, touch practices, and the flow of air.

Participation is free of charge and requires registration through an online form. Register here by September 25 at 11:59 pm (Brasília time).

The activity is open to anyone curious about performative practices, with no prior experience required. Selected participants will be notified by email on Saturday, September 26.

In Pequena Prática, like a daily dose or a daily rule, the consecutive, concise, and frequent sessions offer a detailed approach to the body’s internal pathways. By paying attention to the acts of becoming still, breathing, and relaxing, the entire body expands toward other layers and qualities of movement. The idea is that a daily practice can become the beginning of new habits, new forms of knowledge, and other sensitive possibilities for ways of living.

Grounding her research in the relationship between voice and movement as fundamental elements, Beatriz Sano is a member of Key Zetta e Cia and has also established collaborations with Isabel Ramos Monteiro, Eduardo Fukushima, and Júlia Rocha. In 2026, she took part in the TECTÔNICA residency with Cristian Duarte at Instituto Capobianco. In 2024, together with Fukushima, she choreographed the São Paulo City Ballet’s Horizonte +.

The Pivô Pesquisa 2026 – Performative Practices takes place from August 31 to December 6 in São Paulo, at iBT, with curatorial coordination by choreographer and dramaturg Carolina Mendonça, in collaboration with the Pivô team.

Through an open call, the program selected four proposals by artists based in Brazil’s Central-West, North, Northeast, and South regions. They are: Fayola Ferreira, from Rio Grande do Sul; Kuma, from Amazonas; Rafael FX, from Pernambuco; and Quemuel Costa, from Rio Grande do Norte.

The open call was aimed at artists interested in developing and/or deepening a research project within the expanded field of performative practices, including languages such as dance, performance, theater, and choreography. The program proposes a period of shared research, creating conditions for artists at different stages of their trajectories to deepen questions, shift creative habits, and follow one another’s processes.
