Alex Simões is a Bahian poet, performer, proofreader, and translator, with a degree in Languages and Literature (BA) from UFBA. Among other works, he has published the poetry books minha terra tem ladeiras (Caramurê, 2022), assim na terra como no selfie (Paralelo 13S, 2021), and no meu corpo o canto (co-authored with Tanto Cria, 2021). His poetic practice is deeply engaged with Black and LGBTQIA+ perspectives, as well as with social movements opposing the gentrification of Salvador’s city center. In 2016, he was one of the artists-in-residence at Ocupação Coaty, part of the Ativa Project.
