1977, lives and works at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Ana Lira is a visual artist, radio artist, photographer, independent curator, researcher, writer, and editor. She lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. Lira holds a degree in Social Communication and a specialization in Cultural Journalism with an emphasis on Theory and Criticism of Culture.
Her practice weaves together everyday sensibilities, processes of listening, and collaborative modes of creation, exploring the underlying power relations that shape communication, daily life, and the production of knowledge. Engaging with collectives, her work unfolds across multiple forms — including visual and sound expressions, installations, urban interventions, artist books, printed matter, textiles, texts, mediation, and educational practices.
She has taken part in exhibitions such as the 31st Bienal de São Paulo (2014), the 36th Panorama da Arte Brasileira at MAM São Paulo (2019), Dos Brasis – Arte e Pensamento Negro (Sesc, 2023–2025), and Encruzilhadas da Arte Afro-Brasileira (CCBB, 2023–2025). Her work has also been presented in group shows at Pinacoteca de São Paulo, MAR, MAMAM, MAM Rio, Fundação Joaquim Nabuco, Museu Paranaense, MUFPA, and Galeria Vermelho, among others.
Internationally, her projects have been shown at Museu de Serralves (Portugal) and Museo del Chopo (Mexico). She has participated in residencies in Brazil and the United Kingdom, as well as in exchanges in France, Guinea-Bissau, Switzerland, and the Netherlands — where she was invited as a tutor at DAS Choreography (2022). She was a fellow of the Diaspora Solidarities Lab (2022–2023), a program developed by Michigan State University and Johns Hopkins University.
