Diana Barquero (San José, Costa Rica, 1986) has an MA in Arts in Spatial Strategies at Kunsthochschule Weißensee (Berlin, 2020) and a BA in Fine Arts at the University of Costa Rica (2014). Currently she is based in Mexico City. Her work emphasizes processes of transformation and collapse in contested territories. She focuses on the existing tensions between 'productive spaces' and natural areas. In her work she incorporates organic matter and found objects, paying special attention to raw materials and how they relate to each other. Her practice is nourished by disciplines such as political ecology and critical geographies. Part of her professional development includes different artistic residencies, including Launchpad Art (France) and Alter-academia (2016, TEOR/ética, Costa Rica). Selected exhibitions include Scratching the Surface at Hamburger Bahnhof –Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, (Berlin), Sentient Matter at D21 Kunstraum (Leipzig), “If you think you can grasp me, think again”. >TOP Transdisciplinary Project Space. (Berlin) and “Alterations over a Material Subject”. Contemporary Art and Design Museum MADC. (San José, Costa Rica.) The artist participated in Pivô Pesquisa 2023.
