Fabiano Maciel is a director and screenwriter of documentaries and television programs. His best-known and award-winning work is the feature film Oscar Niemeyer, Life is a Breath, released at the Brasília Film Festival in 2005 and later screened in over 40 countries. Born in Porto Alegre on July 19, 1965, he lived for a long time in Rio de Janeiro and has been living in São Paulo since 2013.
His most recent works were the documentary Quando o Brasil era Moderno (When Brazil Was Modern), which received an honorable mention at the É Tudo Verdade 2025 Festival and is currently showing in theaters across the country, distributed by O2Player. Later this year, he will release his new film, Native Brazilian Music, produced by TvZero in Rio de Janeiro, and on Canal Curta, the 20-episode series Raiz, Arte Afrobrasileira Contemporânea (Roots, Contemporary Afro-Brazilian Art), curated by artist Rosana Paulino.
He directed and co-wrote with Jorge Bodanzky the series “Transamazônica, uma estrada para o passado” (Transamazon, a road to the past), which is currently airing on HBO. Also still airing and streaming on NOW is the feature film “Sambalanço, a Bossa que Dança” (Sambalanço, the dancing bossa), which he made in partnership with journalist and music critic Tárik de Souza. The film tells the story of musicians Ed Lincoln, Durval Ferreira, and Orlandivo, and features Eumir Deodato, Ed Motta, Wilson das Neves, Doris Monteiro, Elza Soares, Miltinho, João Roberto Kelly, and Silvio Cesar. He has directed programs for channels such as Futura, Canal Brasil, Multishow, Prime Box, Sportv, ESPN, and TV Cultura. He is the father of Antonio and Vicente and is fortunate to be married to a Capricorn. He enjoys cinema. However, what he really wanted was to play the bongos in a Cuban band.
