Janaina Wagner develops her research in video, drawing, photography and installations. Her work aims to present a critical understanding of the ways in which humans impose systems of order and control upon their surroundings. Through the appropriation of history as presented through various forms of media, Wagner considers how notions of progress and legacy are articulated through a constellation of tales, facts, images and memories. Currently a Phd student at Le Fresnoy-Studio National des Arts Contemporains (FR), Janaina has participated in several residencies, such as Gasworks (UK); VISIO - European Program on Artists’ Moving Images (IT); FID Campus – Marseille International Film Festival (FR); Bolsa Pampulha (BR); PIMASP - Museum of Art of São Paulo (BR); Red Bull Station (BR); Casa Tomada (BR) and Anarcademia W139 (NL). Among the main exhibitions, the individual works With burning love - Villa Belleville (FR) and Decoupage / Chronicle of an announced end - Art Museum of Ribeirão Preto – MARP (BR); and the group shows Ensaio de Tração - Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (BR); Throat - CIAJG - José de Guimarães International Arts Center (PT); Aliens are temporary - Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien (DE); Casa Carioca - MAR - Museum of Art of Rio de Janeiro (BR) and 4th EDP Arts Prize – Instituto Tomie Ohtake (BR). Janaina Wagner has been participating in several national and international film festivals, such as Tiradentes Film Festival (BR); Festival do Rio (BR); 25 FPS festival (SL); Encounters Film Festival (UK); Vienna Shorts (AT) and Short Waves (PL).
