Julia da Mota

1988, São Paulo e Londres

Julia da Mota holds an MFA in Visual Arts (2016) and a BA in Architecture and Urbanism (2012), both from the University of São Paulo. Her practice is based on painting and printmaking, where she explores relationships of color, form, and matter to create works that come from a phenomenological approach to space, as well as from her intimate experiences. Da Mota is especially interested in the approximation between the ideas of man-built space, landscape, and their limits. In her research, she investigates the tensioning of boundaries —between public and private, external or internal; between built and empty spaces; between the acts of passage and permanence. In 2019, she was a Project Keyholder at East London Printmakers (UK) and artist in residence at the 2nd edition of Lava! (Residência Fonte / São Paulo). In 2018, she was part of LAMB Projects' Billingbear Farm Residency in Berkshire (UK). She has widely shown her work in exhibitions in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Blumenau, London (UK), Alijó (PT) and Chamalières (FR), and has work in collections in Brazil, United Kingdom, Portugal, and France. www.juliadamota.com @juliadamota_
