Born in Conceição do Almeida, Bahia, Marcos da Matta lives between São Félix and Cachoeira, in the Recôncavo Baiano region, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from UFRB in 2019. He is a member of the artist collective Práticas Desobedientes. His explorations in painting, performance, and drawing stem from close observation of daily life in the Recôncavo, shaped by its religious traditions, informal labor, and the ways in which these experiences construct both individual and collective identities.
Among the exhibitions and residencies he has participated in, notable highlights include SP-Arte Rotas Brasileiras (2024), Escutar o Paraguaçu Artistic Residency (2024), solo exhibition 7 Verões (2024), Narrativas Visuais – SESC Artistic Residency (2023), Ling Apresenta: Marcos da Matta (2023), Salão de Abril (2023), Figura Insólita – group exhibition (2023), SP-Arte (2023), Salão de Artes Visuais da Bahia – Acquisition Award (2022), ArtRio (2022), solo exhibition Correria (2022), Salão Nacional de Arte de Jataí (2022), and Water Marks: We Must Remember (2021).
