Rose Afefé was born in Varzedo, in the interior of Bahia, in 1988. Drawing from childhood memories, the artist works across various media, including installation, painting, and photography. In 2018, she began constructing Terra Afefé, a human-scale micro-city built with earth using the adobe technique (raw clay bricks) and painted with lime. Located in the rural area of Ibicoara, Bahia, in the Chapada Diamantina region, Terra Afefé serves as a place of gathering and community, intertwining art and life while fostering local perspectives to amplify the knowledge of the land. Observation and interaction with nature are employed to guide more vibrant and spontaneous ways of life. The poetics of this territory ultimately unfold in the production and imaginative storytelling that surrounds Rose’s artistic practice.
