aarea

www.aarea.co is a curatorial platform founded in 2017 that commissions and exhibits artworks designed especially for the internet. aarea’s activities also extend into a public curatorial program, courses, seminars, and projects in partnership with other art institutions. Founded by Livia Benedetti and Marcela Vieira, aarea is the first internet native art institution in Brazil and has been developing projects in institutional partnerships, such as Bienal de São Paulo, Jeu de Paume (Paris), CCA Wattis Institute (San Francisco), Pivô, Sesc, Pro Helvetia (Switzerland), Salón Nacional de Bogotá (Colombia), among others. aarea has held courses, lectures, and educational activities in places such as the University of São Paulo, Université Rennes II (France), Federal University of Amazonas, Sesc, and the British School of Creative Arts.

Alexandre Brandão

Alexandre Brandão uses different media such as drawing, sculpture, video, objects and installation. His practice mixes up natural and cultural process, combining chance, time, physical and chemical process with handmade methods of production. Selected group shows include “In Memoriam” (Rio de Janeiro, 2017); “66º Salão Paranaense” (Curitiba, 2017); “Bolsa Pampulha 2015/2016” (Belo Horizonte, 2016); ”Some False Moves” (New York, 2015); “Taipa Tapume” (São Paulo, 2014); “18º and 17º “Festival Internacional de Arte Contemporânea SESC Videobrasil” (SP, 2013 e 2011); “Bienal de Filmes de Arte de Colônia” (Germany, 2005). Holds the solo shows “Experiments with chance” (Paris, 2016), “Floor” (São Paulo, 2015); “Effect with no cause” (São Paulo, 2013) and “Almost shadow” (São Paulo, 2012). In 2010 was granted in the 5th Interamerican Video art Biennial (Washington DC) and in 2014 was granted with the ICCo/SP-Arte Residency Fellowship at the Residency Unlimited, New York.

Celeste Rojas Mugica

Artist graduated in photography, emphasis in direction and movies production. Her work investigates the construction of memory, latinamerican history and borders between ficcion and document, through works that discuss photographic media and archival material.

 

 

Dalila Gonçalves

Dora Smék

Develops researches in performance, video, sculpture and objects. Has shown her works in spaces such as CCBB, VERBO at Vermelho Gallery, SESC Bom Retiro, Belenzinho and Pompeia, Andréa Rehder Contemporary Art Gallery, Casa de Cultura da América Latina (CAL), Elefante Cultural Center and at C Gallery. Held the Frankfurter Positionen Festival, Germany and the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Brussels. Was a member actress at Teat(r)o Oficina between 2011 and 2012.
Friedrich Engl
He studied Site-Specific Art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (2014-2016) and graduated in Theater, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna. Engl works with spatial interventions and three dimensional objects. Recent exhibitions and residencies in Sao Paulo include „Untertage“ at FAAP and Studio Pharus.

Janina Mcquoid
Graduated in visual studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, emphasis in arts, theory and practice. Held the group shows Arte Londrina 1 and 2; III Itamaraty Prize for Contemporary Art; La Usurpadora; Correspondences: Janina McQuoid and Leonardo Stroka; Programme of exhibitions of Ribeirão Preto Art Museum; Outdoor II – Continental Love at Warm Gallery and Smash at Boatos Fine Arts. Solo shows include Um sorriso é uma espada, Boatos Fine Arts 2015, Miruca, Boatos Fine Arts, 2016 and Mais uma e você está ciao ciao Bambina, 2018 at Galeria Pilar.
João GG
Artist graduated by the University of São Paulo. He explores the interactions between color light and color pigment through sculptures and installations that mix plastic materials and lighting with LED. The works relate representations of landscapes, fiction and cenography. Participated in group shows in institutions such as Latin America Memorial, Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade, Tomie Ohtake Institute, Oscar Niemeyer Museum, Zipper Gallery, Roberto Alban Gallery, among others. Held the solo show The Apparatus at the programme of exhibitions at Paço das Artes.
Marcel Darienzo

Paul Setúbal
Artist and researcher, Setúbal is also a member of the collective Grupo EmpreZa. PHD in arts and visual culture from Federal University of Goiás. His work deals with the relations between the body, its uses, ways of control, abusive and power relations in contemporary society. Rodrigo Arruda

Held exhibitions in Brazil, United States and Germany in institutions such as: Museum of Contemporary Art of São Paulo, São Paulo Cultural Center, Museum of the State of Pará, Oswald de Andrade Cultural Workshop, Ribeirão Preto Art Museum, SESC Ribeirão Preto, Ateliê397, Sancovsky Gallery, among others. In 2015 was an invited researcher at Ohio State University and in 2018 was granted by the acquisition proze of Santo André Art Saloon.
Simon Fernandes

Yasmin Guimarães
Held groups shows in art spaces such as Auroras, Mendes Wood DM, Ateliê397 and two solo shows at Surface Gallery in São Paulo - reticências (2016) and Eyes and yes (2018).   Her paintings depart from the representation of landscapes, images and elements of the world, which are broken up and fragmented through different supports, in short brush strokes, thin stains of paint or colored paste. A possible representation of the action of the winds on the landscape, or on the things that are in the world.  
Yorgos Petrou
www.yorgospetrou.com   Yorgos Petrou’s practice examines what connects individuals to specific places and employs performance, photography, and sculpture to investigate how those become sites of memory, legend, and trauma. In 2017 his work Landmarks was exhibited in Planétes, the inaugural exhibition of Cultural Capital of Europe Pafos curated by Elena Parpa. His work has also been included in Identalterity at the 5th Biennale of Thessaloniki. He participated in screenings and group exhibitions at the Freud Museum - London, Modern Art OxfordS1 Artspace and Site Gallery - Sheffield, ICA - London, Galeria Vermelho - São Paulo, Insitu Space for Contemporary Art – Berlin, and Wolstenholme Creative Space - Independents Liverpool Biennial.
