Based in Mexico City and founded in 2013, Terremoto is a quarterly printed magazine and blog seeking to foster an interregional dialogue about contemporary in Latin America as well as the border states of United States.
Its 7th issue, “Eternal Life”, compiles several contributions from Mexico, Brazil, Texas, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Colombia and beyond about the historical and contemporary interactions of art with religions and other forms of laic or scientific spiritualities.
For the launch at Pivo, Dorothée Dupuis (editor in chief and founder of the magazine) will discuss with Noah Simblist (artist, curator and professor at SMU Dallas) their respective contributions in the magazine’s current issue, evoking the possibility for art to remain an agent for change, also from an ethical point of view, and against the chaos of the world we are currently living in.
Dorothee Dupuis (1980, Paris) is a French curator, writer and editor based in Mexico City. She was director of Triangle France in Marseille from 2007 to 2012. Founder and editor of Terremoto, and co-director of Petunia magazine, Dupuis is a dedicated feminist. Her curatorial practice and writings seek to expose, question and challenge power structures in the field of art. Current curatorial projects in 2016 include a residence at PAOS, Guadalajara, Adrien Vescovi at IFAL House of France, México DF, and 30th International Art Workshops at the FRAC Pays de la Loire, Nantes, France.
Noah Simblist is chair and associate professor of art at SMU Meadows School of the Arts in Dallas. He works as a curator, writer, and artist. His dissertation “Digging Through Time: Psychogeographies of Occupation” focused on the ways that contemporary artists in Israel-Palestine and Lebanon address history. He is currently working on “New Cities Future Ruins”, a convening inviting artists and designers to re-imagine the extreme urbanism of the Western Sun Belt.
