a known (yet undisclosed) number of rumors spread through the pages of a circulating library is a poem-installation conceived by Pedro Zylbersztajn and commissioned by Pivô, unfolding within and from the library space.
The work consists of a large quantity of small-format arrangements inserted throughout the pages of the collection in a dispersed manner.
Each of these arrangements, or rumors, is a delicate paper form composed of drawings, images, and words. The elements comprising each rumor are defined through an extensive research process by the artist within the collection, where selected images, text fragments, and ideas are derived, whose meanings connect in an unstable way through different arrangements. The texts that integrate and tie each arrangement together are documentary micro-fictions dealing with the apparatus of the library and the behaviors of those who frequent its space—whether human or non-human.
The library, often seen as a haven of silence, is an environment where meanings interconnect among the shelves. The arrangement of books reflects this dialogue among them and with the readers. The installation manifests discreetly, with parts scattered among the pages. This work, of uncertain duration, will remain in the library as long as the rumors and books in the collection move, possibly taken by users and thus kept, lost, or displaced.
On October 7th 2023, the rumors will be, for the only time, exhibited in the library space and then positioned inside the books in a sort of cataloging gesture in which the public is invited to participate.
As a complementary aspect of the installation and as a means of giving visibility to the work, which is largely concealed, the proposal includes the realization of two public events aimed at discussing the library space based on the installation itself. The guests and details of the events will be disclosed shortly.
