Pivô Salvador opens on July 30th

Pivô Salvador opens its doors on July 30th!

Pivô Salvador’s activities began in July with an artist residency. During this month, Pol Taburet, Matthieu Peck and João Oliveira will share the space.

On July 30th, the inauguration of the house, the public will be able to see and hear the artists’ work.
More about the residents of Pivô Salvador at the end of the text.

We invite you to participate in this moment and we have prepared a special program for the day. The workshops of the first residents – Pol Taburet, Matthieu Peck and João Oliveira – will be open to welcome you. Artists will participate in an open conversation in which they will share their research processes, moderated by curators Fernanda Brenner and Priscilla Lolata. The GIA collective will also hold an artistic intervention at home and the writer and musician Kalaf Epalanga, who is already in Salvador as a resident artist of the International Artistic Residency Program Vila Sul do Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia, will command the musical selections of this day.

The event will take place from 1 pm to 7 pm, at the address 11A Boulevard Suíço Street, Nazaré – Salvador (BA).

Save the date and be part of the celebration!

Pol Taburet (Paris, France, 1997)
Pol Taburet’s work is a mix of iconoclastic references that goes from the artist’s own Caribbean origins, including traditions and syncretic beliefs related to voodoo, to contemporary culture in general, and classical painting. He quickly attracted the attention of the public with his painting style, which developed by incorporating the use of airbrushing alongside traditional acrylic paint. The formal result is a unique contrast between textures and finishes, bringing in minute details, ” impressionist” suggestions, and a lot of symbolism.

Matthieu Peck (Paris, France, 1989)
Matthieu Peck is a writer, who has books published by the prestigious publishing house Gallimard. He has published three books and has a particular interest in marginal worlds. His writing is both inspired by 17th century moralists and contemporary poetry, and is acclaimed for its originality and intransigence. Accompanying the painter Pol Taburet to Brazil for ten days, he will write a text that examines the long spaces of creation, as well as what introspection and evolution can provide in an unknown country.

João Oliveira (Salvador (BA), Brazil, 1989)
Micronarratives, farce, failure, love speech and disappearance are some of João Oliveira’s research interests. The artist has a degree in visual arts from EBA-UFBA (2011), where he also took a Master in Creative Processes (2017) and studied metal engraving in the regular courses of the MAM-BA workshops (2013). His works have been selected for exhibitions in Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Londrina-PR, João Pessoa and Chicago (USA), Mexico and Venice (Italy).
