Simon Linington @ Pivô Research

Simon Linington realizes poetic gestures with materials that compose the studio’s daily life. Dust, accumulated layers of dirt underneath shoe soles or a bit of soil found on plant beds at the other side of the street are some of his raw materials. These rejected and undesirable materials are seen as potentials of colour and texture used for the development of sculptures, drawings or etchings.

This is how the artist works his relation with the space around him. As he arrived at Pivô, Linington encountered an abundance of these materials, unveiling the entrails of Copan building, he found an enormous quantity of dust and pieces accumulated during more than twenty years. Dust, earth and traces of life that traversed this space were transformed into works that suggest an intimate relation between the artist, Pivô’s context and São Paulo.

A partnership between Emma Thomas gallery and Space in between, enabled the exchange between the British artist Simon Linington and Lucas Simões, artist in residency at Pivô Pesquisa program. Linington’s first exhibition in Brazil is currently on view at Emma Thomas Gallery.
