Pivô is a non-profit art space providing a platform for exchange, critical thinking and artistic experimentation inside one of São Paulo’s most iconic modernist buildings, the Copan, projected by Oscar Niemeyer in the city’s central area. Since its inception, in 2012, the institution has enabled and facilitated projects by over two hundred artists and curators both local and international and in all career stages.
Its program is comprised by temporary exhibitions, new commissions, residencies, publications as well as discursive educational public programming, fostering a critical understanding of local and international most pressing issues in art and society. Our core mission is to create growing networks of exchange between artistic and cultural practitioners from different contexts and to provide an active meeting point for an emerging art scene in São Paulo.
Pivô’s activities are made possible through the generous support of a network of corporate and private sponsors and the remaining essential funding comes from grants, special editions developed by the artist in the program and its annual fundraising auction and benefit.
nance
Approximate the processes of contemporary creation to the public through the dissemination of everything that is involved in the conception and invoice of a work of art – and not only the finished product – expanding the content generated in the Pivô environment to the social sphere, discussing and verifying the actual role of art in this context.
- Promote a space for exhibition, research, deepening and dissemination of artistic proposals, nationally and internationally.
- To provide a dynamic space for reflection and cutting-edge research in contemporary art and culture that acts as a catalyst for cultural production.
- To bring the public closer to the creative processes of artists, bringing to light all the movements involved in the creation of a project, from the idea to the public exhibition.
- Create a new model of cultural space management, of public interest and non-profit, which aims to establish more flexible relationships between creators and institutions.
- To foster debate on the importance of cultural and artistic movements in the urban structuring and history of cities, with a focus on São Paulo, especially in the central region.
