Watch the new film by the collective Anarca Filmes, Usina-Desejo contra a Indústria do Medo [Desire Plant Against the Fear Industry], at Pivô Satellite, as part of the project O Assombro dos Trópicos [The Haunting of the Tropics], curated by Victor Gorgulho.
Commissioned for the digital platform, the film is part of the homonymous program featuring a series of videos by the collective from Rio de Janeiro, produced in the last 6 years. Usina-Desejo contra a Indústria do Medo is also the group’s first interactive film, bringing the option of alternative endings to the public.
The film tells the story of Bill and Penélope, filmmakers who live together during a terrible era in a catastrophic Brazil. After a disaster in Cinema and Culture, Bill’s job is under threat. In the midst of a dystopia, among the ruins of the film industry, Penélope introduces him to Usina-Desejo, a channel on YouTube by the tarot reader Oracle. Through mysterious interactivity, Oracle introduces the two friends to a world full of mysteries, excesses and delusions.

The video program Usina-Desejo contra a Indústria do Medo in on view on Pivô Satellite until February 25, in two sessions: Terríveis [Terrible], until February 15, features works made during the ANTI Antifascist Film Residency, and Tapete Vermelho [Red carpet], starting from February 16, shows some of the collective’s main films.
